A Great Wonder in Heaven
£1,800.00
An abstract depiction of the ghostly apparitions seen above the battlefield of the English Civil War, at Edgehill over the winter months of 1642/3. With hundreds of witnesses including a member of the Royal Commission sent to investigate them, these phantom battles are the only British ghosts to be officially recognised by law. The title is the same as a pamphlet printed at the time. This artwork captures the fury, noise and brutal blows of war, reflected from the rotting, bloody fields into the tumultuous skies above.
